Lúa is a 2D side-scrolling platformer developed during Global Game Jam 2025 in collaboration with Under Castle and Andrés Piñeiro. Inspired by Celeste and Ori and the Blind Forest, it follows Ajo, a curious axolotl who discovers a bubble at the bottom of the sea and must protect it while bringing it safely to the surface. The game focuses on precision platforming built around the jam theme "Bubble," aiming to deliver a short but memorable experience.
I designed both the game mechanics and level flow, focusing on a good balance of challenge and rhythm using jumping, double jumping, and wall grabbing to shape a dynamic and rewarding progression throughout the levels.
Level Design
Designed the level layout from scratch — environmental composition, platforming sections, object placement, and flow pacing to guide the player from sea floor to surface.
Mechanics Design
Defined the core movement set (jump, double jump, wall grab) and tuned the interaction between the player and the bubble mechanic to keep it readable and satisfying throughout.
Working in 2D with Unreal Engine (mainly designed for 3D) taught me how to adapt collisions, camera setup, and level building for a flat environment. I also sharpened my understanding of pacing and clarity in short-form platformers, where every section has to earn its place.
